03/28/2003 Archived Entry: "War on Iraq-is"

The more I hear about the war on Iraq, the more I think of Dune. It's pretty funny. Sort of.
Iraq sounds like Arrakis if you pronounce them correctly. The news talk about the desert and sandstorms like they were on Arrakis. Dune's overthrown villain is Emperor Shaddam which no doubt reminds you of Saddam. And Saddam's death squads are the Fedayeen while Paul's death squads were The Fedayken. Whoever controls The Spice controls the universe, and whoever controls the oil controls the world.

Eerie stuff!

Maybe Frank Herbert was a Nostradamus like prophet as well as one of the best writers ever. And maybe Saddam is going to unleash giant sandworms soon! I can't wait!

You're mixing the characters. First you relate Saddam to Shaddam Corino, then you're relating him to Paul.......... make up your mind =P

A previously unknown group, calling itself the Iraqi National Front of Fedayeen, vowed to intensify assaults on American troops until they leave Iraq.

US officials blame the attacks on diehard Saddam loyalists. Many Iraqis say the resistance is fuelled by resentment at the occupation and the behaviour of US troops. "The Americans are occupiers and aggressors," said Sayyid Ali, one of about 2,000 Shi'ites who protested outside the vast palace compound in Baghdad now used by Iraq's US rulers.

It is weird how a real "Mahdi" army have emerged from the current Iraqo insurgency ! "Mahdi" is the name of the army led by the shiite Muqtada EL Sadr, who is a young leader and religious symbol who leads the Iraqi resistance to the Anglo-American occupation.
Mahdi army hated Saddam, rejoiced at his expulsion from power, and also resisted the presence of foreign forces on Iraq, they are the bulk of the resistance now. I guess the sand worm is propably the insurgents who perform 60-80 attacks daily on the international forces in Iraq, emerging suddenly from the sand and blasting some target or convoy or whatever.
