05/29/2003 Archived Entry: "Elle Ex Gee"
There's definitely something wrong with the people marketing the movie "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". In the first trailer and teaser, the movie's title was shortened to "LXG". That's not so bad since "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" is pretty tedious to type out and/or say. We all like our short-forms but hearing Mr.Voice actually saying "Elle Ex Gee" seems dumb to me. I think I would have been happy with "Elle Ex Gee, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".
Exceeding stoopidity shows up though in the trailer attached to X-Men 2 when the words "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" appear but Mr.Voice only says "The League". It sounds absolutely horrendous and cheesy, I kept expecting to hear "of Extraordinary Gentlemen" as any sane person would, especially when those words are up there on the screen. It was very unsatisfying I might have even slept better that night if someone said to me "of Extraordinary Gentlemen". You'd think the people making these decisions would at least watch the trailer first and realize how wrong it sounds.
Imagine what these people would do to "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" or "Lara Croft, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life".

you definitely have too much time on your hands ...
now here's my real question ... the league of extraordinary gentlemen are the x-men? or?
and why are they x-men when a bunch of them are girls? that makes no sense! they're just throwing political correctness right out the window

No no no, 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' is a movie coming out with Sean Connery! Not related to the X-Men other than the trailer was shown before the movie X2.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is about classic english literary characters getting together to fight evil. There's Allan Quatermain, The Invisible Man, Hyde And Jekyll, Tom Sawyer, Captain Nemo, Mina Harker.
These gentlemen include one woman.
They're not related to the X-Men except that they're both comic book properties.
I think X-People wouldn't sound as good =P

you could call "lara croft, tomb raider: the cradle of life" LCTRTCL... and you could say it "left-control-tickle"... or something... sorry, that's what i saw when i saw LCTRTCL written out as such. ha ha, silly me :)

ohhh ... i was getting all confused with all the x's in the title
so ... tom sawyer is extraordinary? seems kind of hokey to me ... i think i want to boycott all movies that i know are inspired by comic books ... what do you think rayne?

ACTUALLY, Tom Sawyer wasn't in the original book. The filmmakers thought that the cast needed a U.S.-ian character so they added him so that, you know, the U.S.-ians will be able to recognize at least one character in the movie.
besides, if you were to avoid all comic-related films, in a couple of years that'll be 1/2 of everything that comes out !

but .. since i only watch like 5% of the movies that are released ... i should be ok, right?

maybe you wont be tho!
I'll just stop informing you about which upcoming movies are comic-related until you've seen them. then it'll be too late!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!

Ok, LXG wasn't even the acrilicome for the comics, so the movie ((Adding two extra characters, Mr. Dorian Gray Novel by Oscar Wilde "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and Mr. Tom Sawyer "Hucklebarry Fin" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer")) is mostly nothing like the comics, Alan Moore wrote.
X-men is a title for the team, and if you had seen the cartoons or read the comics you would know that on the real X-men team there is about 30 of them... ((Cable, Bishop, Remy, Angel, Cyclops, Psylocke, Rogue, Jean Grey, Storm, Logan, SilverFox, Kurt, Scarlet Witch, and various others, most of them in relation to them...))
They really didn't need another character, Shane West's agent arranged for them to add another character. Unless they wanted to target more audiences (Teenaged Girls... With both Shane and Stuart. Older citizens with Sean Connery and Roxberge, and Feminist with Mina Harker, and the addition of the forever faithful to Dorian Gray... His wife Sybil. (of course she did poison herself.))

I doubt Shane West is popular enough for his agent to be able to alter a script. It was all about adding an american character into the mix.
The x-men are currently about 3 different teams of 10. but it would be impossible for them to make a movie with that many characters in it.
Whats this argument all about anyways?

Learn how to spell stupidity before you make dumb-ass comments to narrators of a commercial. And what in the hell does X-Men have anything to do with the League of Extroadinary Gentlemen?
Posted by Beast @ 01/31/2004 12:44 PM EST
Besides the fact that you can't spell, "The League" is in fact easier to say than "The League of Extroadinary Gentlemen" and a narrator (presuming that most of America is composed of idiots, case and point you,) has to give the populous some kind of a name instead of a three letter abbreviation such as LXG. Furthermore, what the League is all about, is the forming of a team of classic characters from great pieces of literature to fight an evil force. That is why Tom Sawyer is added even though he is from an American piece of literature. All of these classic charcters coming tiogether in one picture, does what 1 book would have trouble doing. So this movie responds to, not only those who read the books, but because of its action content, to everyone else as well. And, if you didn't know, the produces hinted at other books as well. Like when Allan Quartermain describes the Phantom as "very operatic" hints to "The Phantom of the Opera" When Captain Nemo introduces his first mate, the first mate says "call me Ishmale" which is a character from the book "Moby Dick" And another one that I found was when Mina was explaining her vampire features she mentions the caracter Van Helsing which, as you should know, is a new movie coming out this summer. So you got my info, do something with it.

You know, when you attack someone's arguments by first attacking his spelling you should really make sure that A. the mispelling is not intentional, and B. that your spelling and grammar are impeccable.
Case IN point, it's "together" and not "tiogether", "producers" not "produces" (you were going for the noun and not the verb, right?), and "character" not "caracter". Don't even get me started on your run-on sentences.
For the record, I am Canadian.
