The Long Road
08/26/2003 Archived Entry: "Tuition"
This is just to remind all you UW'ers that tuition was due yesterday. hehehe. I’d like to re-iterate how much it bloody sucks to pay 3931.91$ for four months worth of tuition. This is pretty much double what others in the same program at Carleton pay. It's actually pretty much double every other program anywhere. Totally unfair. I’ve heard all the “excuses” and “justifications” before but the point of the matter is that it is very harsh to see a huge portion of my bank account being drained in one shot. After working for four months I'd like to have a nice sum saved up but it pretty much all goes to waterloo. Imagine all the nice spending money us CS'ers could have if we paid the same as everyone else. At least I’m not in engineering.
Oh yeah, did you guys know there was a Blackout last week? Crazy eh? Read Shawn's account of what happened to me during the Thursday and Friday of the Blackout here.

I'm pleased to say I was all over the tuition payment and paid it the day after my bill arrived.
As for the amount I pay, I pay more than half as much as you. It's about $2400 which (removing your co-op fee) is only like $1000 less than you.
This is not to say you have it easy. I fully recognize that it sucks monkey balls to be in CS. Try science - it's fun.

Yikes, I my tuition stayed exactly the same as last year so I am all good on that front. And if you pay your tuition by online banking you have up until sept 3rd I believe. I paid mine already anyway just to get it out of the way.

I am happy to say that I paid my tuition yesterday, since it's not due until some later date if you pay by bank payment rather than cheque. (Yay for extra interest!)
I also opted out of the health plan on time, so I only had to pay $3868.49, rather than paying the full amount and getting the health plan money back later.

Ya, I'm not great with getting out of that health plan. I totally forgot about it last term.
I also thought that paying later would be better than sooner since it would make a pretty sizeable difference in the amount of interest earned!

yup. i checked my account and the almost $4000 had been drained. i'm still left with about $4000 for the term though. maybe five even. but... wow, i don't spend a lot of money. that means i spent only about two over the previous four months.
what will i do with all this money? well, i bought a bike. that was a pretty big expense. i have a feeling i'll get talked into buying other thigns also.
and yay! thai linked to my journal!
