The Long Road
09/04/2003 Archived Entry: "those poor "chopstick fingers""
So I poured boiling water right out of a kettle and onto my hand yesterday. It hurt. A lot. As I was seething in pain, an interesting list of remedies was rattled off to me: warm water, cold water, ice, aloe, toothpaste and…soya sauce! I dunno, I’ll try anything, but being obsessively compulsed to constantly have clean hands makes the idea of rubbing soya sauce into them very unappealing.
After looking up some First Aid on the Internet (aaah, the Internet). I ended up dropping my hand in a sink full of cold water for an hour or so. It was very soothing except when I took my hand out and it would eventually dry and sting horribly again.
Anyways, my hand seems ok now; no blisters – which I think are superbly gross. This whole experience has taught me one thing, that I need to know some First-Aid or at least some really basic First-Aid so that the next time my manual dexterity fails me I won’t be going around to several people asking for advice before doing something about the unbearable pain.

when i was pretty young, i fell backwards into a fire pit. this was the early morning, so there weren't any flames. just coals. but god damnit, coals are FRICKING HOT! i think it happened around when i was twelve. but boy, i got blisters from that. i was taken, wailing all the while, to a sink in some outhouse, and we ran the cold water tap for about five minutes on my hand. it helped but it i was still in a lot of pain.

You might want to think of amputation Thai. The Chicks will really dig it.

Amputation? No. Those Chicks are too weird anyways. But maybe I can pop it...should I?

Is this the first time you've badly burned yourself? Lucky!

Don't pop it! Pain and infection. Yucky.
I was burned badly once. We were having ckicken kiev for dinner one night and as I cut mine open it exploded and spewed boiling butter on the back on my hand. It spread all over my hand and then down in between my fingers. I had blisters for about a week. *shudders* Not fun at all.

I accidentaly popped it...it was not a pretty sight. at all. Seems to have healed alright though so no infections!
I'm pretty sure this is the first major burn i've had.

It's always good to have some first-aid person -like sarah - next to you during one of those painul moments.
[it's incredible how much you can hurt yourself in such a limited amount of time.]
