The Long Road
11/21/2003 Archived Entry: "Rayne's week on TV"
Here's what I thought of this week's editions of the shows I regularly watch on TV.
Enterprise, 24, Smallville, Survivor. Many spoilers.
Enterprise 3x10
Probably the best episode of Enterprise yet (though it was very similar in theme to Voyager’s Tuvix). This episode had a great moral quandary which can only be made through Sci-Fi. Whoever cast those younger Tuckers did an amazing job because they looked very much like they were younger Tuckers. And look! Development in the Tucker/T’Pol relationship! Granted it was a 6 day old clone of Tucker but development it was nonetheless! I was expecting hot inter-racial sex but all we got was a kiss. The swirling metal chunks looked very cool. And would the captain please stop barking at everyone all the time! My one complaint is Genetic Memory, I seriously doubt that our dna hold all of our memories. A convenient device, yes, but a bad one to use. I think it would have been cool if clone Tucker replaced real Tucker permanently, but they've done a few things like that already in previous Treks.
Smallville 3x07
Magneto VS Superman! Or sort of. Why can’t they cast convincingly young actors for this show? I did not for an instant believe that Magneto was only 16. I also thought they got over the whole weekly plot of “guy has a crush on Lana, gets superpowers, becomes psychotic stalker, gets taken down by Clark” thing. How many variations of this basic plot can they do? Chloe got to deal with Lex this week instead of Lionel, I can’t wait to see what they hatch to deal with the old guy. I’ll take bets right now that Lionel caused the death of his parents and has been hiding it all this time. Where was Pete this episode? Why is his name even in the opening credits?
24 3x04
I fell asleep through some of this but I got the gist of it. Basically they’re once again setting up the Jack VS Terrorists VS CTU paradigm. They’ve done this for 2 seasons before so why not do it again? We didn’t see any of Tony this week, I really hope he doesn’t die! And I thoroughly enjoyed Kyle “They told me they wanted to help cuz I was sick and might die so I decided to run away from them” Singer’s g/f telling him that he could go get himself killed if he wanted but he’d have to do it alone because she didn’t want to get sick. Then she gets locked up with him! Poor girl. Stupid Kyle.
Survivor 7x09
Rupert was voted off!! Out of all the contestants Rupert and Andrew were definitely the most deserving of winning and now they’re both gone! We all knew this was coming though; Rupert was very obviously the strongest one, and he had too much control over what was going on. He seemed like the nicest guy for the first few episodes but for the last two he’s only come off as don’t-cross-me-you’ll-be-sorry scary. Why did Sandra vote for Jon when the rest of her team voted for Darrah? I don’t know. And why is everyone promising Jon he’ll be in final three? I definitely don’t want that guy to win, and certainly not pouty-lil. I want Burton to win now, after he came back he totally dominated everything and with Rupert gone Burton’s the most competent person left in the game. At least Rupert will have another chance at the 1M when he does Survivor All-Star.

That's a lot of TV viewing, sounds like the campus life of an arts student. :)

Some comments on Survivor...
The reason people want to tag Jon along with them into the final two is because they feel he has been so openly treacherous...that the jury will not select him for the one million dollars...BUT, I don't even want to see him as the runner-up...
I was originally going for Andrew...its too bad Rupert's been voted off...with what is left, I'm going for the Morgan's...either Darrah or TJ (Tijuana)...I think it was more disappointing that Burton didn't grant Rupert his PROMISED prize than the fact that they voted him off...it seems more like a personal attack...any respect I had for Burton...is GONE!
As for Sandra...picture Rupert as Thrall...and Sandra as his grunt...she means well to serve her boss...but she really ain't that bright...

i think it's a good idea to keep around jon .. who likes jon? if you need someone to flip on him, there's unlikely to be any who would be loyal enough to him to say no ... i think burton's a smart guy ... putting lill and jon in his camp ... unless the rest of the girls decide to gang up on him ... they're toast ... i was really surprised to see sandra vote for jon though when the rest of her block was voting for darrah ... was she trying to send the signal that she wasn't one of rupert's lackies? that she would like to switch place with jon? i'm also very impressed by christa ... sure she's annoying as heck ... but as far as females goes, she's one strong girl .. she's probably the second strongest person on the island now the rupert's gone (physically that is) ... oh geez ... why did i ever start watching survivor? it's evil, evil i tell you!

Impressed with Christa...most of her brain mass has diffused into her muscles...
Recall the challenge that involved the questions...the first question involved "pieces of eight"...which Jeff mentioned to be money after he revealed the answer...the final question in the challenge referred to what you wouldn't find in a treasure chest...out of all the options, Christa chose "pieces of eight"!!!
Mel...please don't trade your brains for muscle to be like Christa...;)!!!

Four hours a week isn't THAT much tv viewing. I'm sure most art students get at least twice as much in as I do.
I am also impressed with Christa, her best moment was when she supported all the weight on her back! As much as that lazy-ass Osten did. Christa's voice is incredibly grating tho. The perfect female professor Frink (?) voice.
Burton should have definately given Rupert the fishing prize after he promised to. Sure he was gonna get him voted off but he could have been nice to him still.

i watch deep space 9 five days a week, if i'm not interupted by stupid things like coop interviews or cs350 demos :)
i also watch smallville and 24 on tuesday nights, and enterprise and jake 2.0 on wednesdays.
lately i've been getting up early on saturdays to watch three hours of cartoons in the morning. that consists of kirby right back at cha', sonic x, shaman king, teenage mutant ninja turtles, justice leage, and he-man masters of the universe. except they changed the lineup around this time, and there were different shows on for the last two. so disappointing!

Shaman King is a great series........ i have the whole series. What's the dub like?(I'm guessing terrible like all other dubs)

don't worry dan ... i wouldn't trade my brains for christa's brawn ... but she still is quite impressive (i forgot about the pieces of eight fiasco ... that was just sad ... ) ... sometimes i wonder how much brain power it takes to be a survivor though ... i know there's deceit, manipulation, strategy, etc ... but if you make it to the merge and are strong enough to win all the challenges (and this time the challenges are definitely more physically biased) then you're set ... and i think i had a point, but i can't remember it now ... so i should probably get back to work ... hooray!
