The Long Road
11/28/2003 Archived Entry: "Rayne's week on TV"
Here're some random thoughts on this week's editions of Enterprise, 24, Smallville, and Survivor. Many spoilers.
Enterprise 3x11
Boring, Stupid and Pointless. Written by Berman and Braga. The Xindi were the focal point of this episode but the overall plot hasn’t been advanced one bit. Why were they traveling back to 2003? So the producers could do something they thought would be cute. At one point during the episode one of the time travelers says that they didn’t have time for such and such. You have a TIME MACHINE for fuck’s sake!
Smallville 3x08
Ah-ha! I was right last week when I predicted that it would be revealed that Lionel engineered his parents’ deaths. At least it certainly looks like it. This episode was different than most episodes of Smallville in that it focused more on Lex than on Clark. Which is nice since Lex is the more interesting character. This episode is centered on making Lex seem crazy and ends with him undergoing treatment to lose all short term memory (a la Memento). Let’s get serious here; we all know that Lex will be fine in a couple of episodes. I loved it when Lionel said that he loved his son unconditionally, just not enough to lose his Empire over. I don’t understand why Clark has to just stand there every time he pushes someone out of the way of an incoming car. Why couldn’t he keep running to avoid being hit? And why did he let Lex get captured? He had all the evidence he needed to see that Lex was not insane. Morgan Edge was indeed well and alive, and it was admitted that Lex had been drugged. Hopefully Clark realizes all this next week and breaks Lex out. No sign of Pete Ross AT ALL this week.
24 3x05
Jack vs CTU vs Terrorists? Looks like we’re getting there! I think this was one of this season’s strongest episodes so far. Lots of action and drama. Kyle Singer redeems himself…by trying to commit suicide. And his g/f acts stupid by trying to save his life…they were both found in the end though so I guess that she didn’t act TOO badly. I really like the way Jack thinks, always playing the odds and doing things that will benefit the most people. Such as freeing hundreds of maximum security inmates to save hundreds of thousands or telling the guard to play Russian roulette and risk dying or die anyways. Wouldn’t it be wild if Jack was actually WITH the bad guys this time around?
Survivor 7x10
Life after Rupert is actually not so bad. With him out of the way the camera can actually focus on some other people now. The big news this episode was Jon’s lie to everyone. It seems like a really despicable thing to do but “what would you do for a million dollars?” and the fact that he had this planned ahead of time makes him pretty damn clever. He was also clever enough to turn the votes against Tijuana when he heard their plans. Sandra and Christa are complete morons though for having voted with Jon’s side. Had they removed Burton (or Jon for that matter!) there could have been 3 even teams of 2. Now Jon’s team still has 3 and Darrah is out on her own. I actually thought it would have been cool to see an all female final 5. I don’t understand why no one is actively looking to kick Jon just out of sheer annoyance. The “Loved Ones’!!! What a great bunch they were! Lil’s husband looked like one of the seven dwarfs and Jon’s friend I dunno…he looked soooooooo strange. Funny that none of that night was shown must have been boring for everyone. Poor Darrah and her b/f not getting a single matching answer! I look forward to Jon peddling his "I swear on my grandmother's grave" line for the rest of the season.

Damn that Jon...what a bastard...and Sandra and Christa are so dumb!...they should have made a deal to take out Lil that very night...there's no way Jon will play by the rules.
As for Darrah...I knew her bf wouldn't match any of her answers...I'm sure he doesn't even listen when she talks to him...its all superficial...however, if you reversed the scenario...I'm sure Darrah would know stuff about him...
TJ basically got herself voted off for talking to Jon...she should have started conspiring against Sandra and Christa AFTER tribal council...

LOL yeah, that Jon is such a sneaky bastard! I can't believe he planned that whole "tell them my grandma past away" thing BEFORE the show even started taping! What a guy!
That burton better be secretly planning something, he seems so dull! He's like Jon's bitch. It'd be great if he somehow reversed everything in the end and ended up winning, but I want Jon to win... just cuz he's such a little prick! :)

The girls are dumb enough to believe him now because he swears on his grandmother's grave! What a bastard!
I don't know that I want Jon to win...he can Outwit everyone...but is totally undeserving.

But doesn't he seem fitting for the champ. title?
"Outwit, Outlast, Outplay."
