The Long Road
12/19/2003 Archived Entry: "Rayne's week on TV"
Thoughts on 24, The Simple Life and Survivor.
This is the last installment of this weekly "feature" for at least the next 2 weeks as I'll be home where the cable isn't.
24 3x08
This was a bit of a let down after last week’s amazing ending, of course. The explanation for why Jack wanted back in with the Salazars was pretty good, but if I were young Salazar, I wouldn’t believe Jack’s reasons. I really love Jack’s character! Honestly, who else would pull the trigger his on own partner and daughter’s boyfriend for the greater good? Any other character would have given up there or attempt to find some other way out, but not Jack, he knows what has to be done no matter what. Silly women and their abandoning of significant others for surmountable reasons!
The Simple Life 1x04
Why does the family insist that the girls’ actions will reflect badly on them? I’m sure the whole town knows that the girls are only filming a show and aren’t going to hold their adoptive family responsible. Paying to kiss Nicole’s butt?! Wouldn’t do it. Kissing another guy to get a kiss from Paris and Nicole? Probably wouldn’t do it either. I saw a girl at the PAC today on a treadmill that’d give Paris a run for her money in terms of skinny-ness.
Survivor 7x13
I had this taped cuz of exams and it was really hard avoiding all the websites that would potentially spoil the ending! Was a three hour finale really necessary? They really should have split it over a couple of days but maybe they just didn’t have enough material to show a full hour’s worth for that first part. The second to last immunity challenge also seemed like a pretty poor game. I really really hate when Survivor tries to be all self-important like when the contestants were told to say something about each of the departed contestants. For God’s sake, they’re not dead and burning that much wood just for some meaningless ceremony seems like a lot pollution for no reason. I don’t think voting Darrah off because she was “the biggest physical threat” made any sense…she’s the smallest of them all. When Lillian started crying over the letters I very much wanted to hit her. She was getting on my nerves the entire 3 hours. In the end, she made the same mistake that Colby did not too long ago by choosing someone she thought deserved to win the million instead of choosing to go up against someone she’d be sure would lose to her. Sandra totally dominated the questions from the jury at the end. Everyone was on Lill’s case and she was on the defensive the whole time which didn’t bode too well for her. We cheered here when it was Sandra that won the million, not because we wanted her to win as much as we didn’t want Lillian to win. The reunion show was interesting; Lillian looked COMLPETELY different, nowhere near as deathly as before. She was pretty much unrecognizable, everyone else looked pretty much just like themselves but with a bit more meat to them. I don’t know how much the other players appreciated the Rupert worship session, I know that I would probably resent the fact that I got less air time because of him. He is a cool guy though, I look forward to seeing him on all-star and maybe Jon will be there too. I think Jon would definitely make all-star more interesting.

You know, everyone seems to claim that Lillian would win the million dollars if she had taken Jon to the final. They even conducted a mock vote during the reunion to show it. However, you have to understand that the mock vote was performed on the basis of everyone's hatred for Jon. With the way Jon played the game, he sure had a basis for a defense. With his mind working around the clock, I'm sure he'd give really good answers to questions and be capable of overturning the votes of a few people. I'm just glad he didn't get a chance at the million!

yeah, they were all voting based on the fact that they had seen the show already and knew about his lie...it probalby would have made a difference for them to vote without having seen the show in the first place. And yes, he probably would have found some way to win some of those over. in any case, i would have rathered he win than lillian =P
