1. Do you acknowledge that Nintendo has an image problem?

no? then you need some new eyes.

2. Read carefully:
A console is judged on its exclusive content.
Nintendo is its own largest provider of exclusive content.
A very large majority of Nintendo's output is simple mascot-based games.

And again: "Nintendo’s insistence on pumping out all-ages mascot-based platformers and party games is why it’s stuck with the image of being a console for kids."

This has nothing to do with this post but I wasn't sure how to make a comment to Joe about this. So here goes. I'm no longer a thief. In canada I can download mp3s comepletely guilt free. And since I don't upload I'm okay. Thank you Canada.

While Canada's laws do indeed allow downloading of music, and as such you are not breaking the law by doing so, there is still the moral issue of whether you should download music or not.
Personally, I don't believe that downloading music is particulary moral, I will still continue to do so for all the same reasons as before.

I apologize for my misuse of the word moral. Now can you just make a post about this so that your topic isn't hijacked.

----

on topic again:
1) Nintendo has an image. whether it is a problem or not depends on the goals Nintendo has for their product line. If they are only trying to make money, I believe they are doing a fantastic job of it. Although I haven't looked at any financial statements to confirm.

2) absolutely correct.

I think it is a problem. Nintendo used to own the majority of the video gaming pie. Now Sony does and Nintendo and MS are fighting for the scraps. Like you, no numbers but I know for certain that PS2 is King now. The fact that Nintendo had to post losses last quarter is a clear indication of that. I'm certain Nintendo would like to be on top again, who wouldn't?

I'm also certain that the reason Nintendo isn't doing better than it is is because of its focus on all-ages mascot-based games and its lack of adult games (as defined by me, you sanctimonious bastards).

aww ... but the music downloading topic would have been so much more interesting ... i find it interesting that you say "nintendo had to post losses" ... like someone forced them to (they obviously didn't have parmalat's accountants) ... i think nintendo has failed to realize two things:

1. kids grow up much faster than they used to .. and as such, like to have the gorier more "adult" games as you kids have termed them; and

2. nintendo's loyal fan base has also aged (it's been what like ... 18 years since nes came out?) and so this base has matured and bloomed into the more sophisticated gamer demanding, logically enough, more sophisticated games

a game system's strength and success has always been about the games ... the systems themselves are often sold at a lost b/c the real money is in the games ...

and if this has already been said, i must apologize since those paragraphs upon paragraphs of babble intimidated me :D

"nintendo had to post losses"
please excuse my wording.

I also agree that there were too many paragraphs of text. conciseness is something we should all practice all the time.

and no, i don't think anyone's brought up what you've just said. good points. but don't bring up gore in games or those guys will just jump down your throat!

Damn it forget about the exclusiveness(is that even a word?) of the games. Think about which system can get you free games the easiest/best way!!!!!

I mean who pays for games in this day and age =P

I think the biggest problem in the last thread comes from not understanding what the other person is saying. People say "GC is aimed at kids", other people say "No, GC is not JUST for Kids". The problem here is that the first group of people were never saying GC is ONLY for kids, just that it is aimed at kids. In the end if you like support Nintendo you should just be able to say "Sure GC is aimed at a younger generation but that's fine, I enjoy the games and that's why I play it". There is no need to deny the fact that they target a younger generation.

People who give a shit about the creators of music, games etc don't just steal them.

By the way, if you are just downloading music and not burning it you are NOT paying the artist. Their money (what little it is) comes from the tarrifs which are levied on recordable media, etc. Don't fool yourself into believing you're a moral person when you're not.

But I can still look at myself in the mirror every morning and be happy with myself. I buy a good number of blank cds as well.
