03/08/2004 Archived Entry: "Liver"

The best organ to eat! Because not too many people enjoy eating liver, it's super cheap to buy...something like 1$ for a pound or something equally ridiculous. If you do like it, it's a great deal. How often can you buy quality meat you like at such a low price?

Anyways, I don't really see what people have against liver, it's such a vital organ and when cooked properly it's got this delightful crunchy yet tender feel that almost disintagrates in your mouth when you start chewing. The best part has to be the bumpy/gritty texture, it's singularly unique in how it feels in your mouth. All that, plus it's good for you too!

My worst experience with liver occured when I went to one of the Irish pubs (I forget which) in "downtown" Waterloo and ordered the liver and Onions, never having had any outside of home. So the plate came, and covering half this plate was the liver, it was a pretty big liver. A bit of probing later I discovered that the liver was folded over like six times, it was a big ass liver. Huge, even. It was somewhat late in the night, so I dunno, maybe they gave me all the liver they had left. I ate the pretty much the whole thing but had my fill for more than a few months after that.

first ... liver isn't meat ... it's an organ ... and what is the job of this organ? cleansing the blood, yes? it's the cleaner ... would you want to eat a sponge after you used it to clean? no ... i didn't think so

add to the fact that liver has no discernable taste and a horrid texture ... and it's definitely the best food out there

mmm liver...
liver and onions
or liver on a bun
However, liver has to be pretty carefully prepared, and it has to be a good quality liver as well. It is easy to get liver which is very tough and full of tough stringy bits (veins I guess) which make it bad. However when it is sliced thin, and well fried, with a bit of flour, then it is a delicious meal. We should do that next term in Waterloo Thai!

Didn't you not want liver last term...or was that Joe? The stringy bits are the worst...I can't stand stringy bits in any meats actually, they just get spat out.

I want to change the subject to "Liver Let Live".

I have nothing to add to this, but...

Remember that joke in I Know What You Did Last Summer, "Liver alone?"...its only embedded in my memory because people laughed so bodaciously...when I didn't really see it as that funny...was I missing something?!?!?...:P!!!

Eugh....LIVER. *shudder* Gag me with a spork!!! Do you ever wonder what those gritty little bits are? or those stringy things you can't chew? GROSSNESS!!! That's all they are! Bumpy and gritty is NOT what I expect when eating meat, especially if it is out at a restaurant where I am paying to be impressed by my food. Liver doesn't impress me much. Sure it has protein and iron, but when it comes to food, texture is huge with me. So Thai, please post a new entry, because each time I see 'LIVER' when I check out your page
it makes my stomach flip-flop!!

ugh, I really hate it when people say "[whatever] anyone?" now, it sounds too "inside joke"-ish and stupid.
