The Long Road
09/14/2004 Archived Entry: "Flash is the new Pop"
Cinescape has begun to use Flash based "pop ups" instead of pop up windows. I suppose this was only a matter of time since all good browsers have implemented some kind of pop-op blocker and IE is getting it's very own in the near future. Its a good alternative and all, but god is it ever annoying. The Flash animation goes over the main page blocking everything, and you need to click on "close" twice to make it go away. Not to mention the music...
The only way I can think of to get around this is to disable Flash, which I'm not going to do (as much as I *LOVE* Flash, and all). So until they get rid of this ridiculousness, I won't be giving them anymore hits.

The Adblock extension to Firefox will let you disable flash based on the server it comes from. (It'll also let you disable just about anything else based on its server.) Give it a whirl - just go to update.mozilla.org.

Wee Firefox!..
I like Flash where it's useful -- eg short films, cartoons, menus, whatever. If there's one thing I CANNOT stand is a misplaced, useless Flash intro (eg www.jif.ca and countless other sites).
So ya.

I'll try this Firefox thing, but I'm still not going to cinescape, out of principle.
