08/09/2005 Archived Entry: "Activia"

is Danone's entry into probiotic yogourts. The whole science of probiotics is mumbo-jumbo to me and seems more like a fad than anything. But! Activia has the best yogourt flavours out there. The brand has the rich creaminess and firm texture of Danone's La Creme line but with flabvours that are unique and delicious. Aside from the standard strawberry and vanilla, they've got Peach and Fibres, Pear (apparently...though I've never seen it), and best of all: Prune.

I was at a Loblaws last week buying some groceries and was very dismayed to find that all of the vanilla and strawberry containers of Activia were gone but the Prunes were completely untouched! It's sad to think that people are so reluctant to try something new and in the process are missing out on the greatest yogourt experience they could ever have! I think the shelf full of Prune yogourt containers left at Loblaws is a symbol of everything that's wrong with our society.

Or maybe it's because Loblaws Carlingwood caters to the very young and the dying.

LOL...Activia sales as a representation of our society?...:P

Nothing beats raspberry yogurt...it allows you to reach a semi-euphoric state...;)

Alright, I have to admit. I have tried Activia but have purposely steered clear of the 'Prune' flavour. I don't MEAN to be prejudiced, but the unappetizing picture of that shrively little prune on the package doesn't help it's case. And I'm sorry, but prunes just reek (no pun intended) of old people trying to stay regular....not cool. That aside, I don't think it's lack of people wanting to try something new. I'll try something new if it seems exciting or fun. Prunes= not so fun. And something pretty will most certainly catch my eye. Prunes= not pretty. Maybe the shrivelly little prune on the package needs a mascot to help him out or something? Thai, will you be his spokesperson?

I tried the ones that come in a 12 pack (peach, strawberry, multi-berry and vanilla I think), which was pretty good, although, prune, pear and apple yogurt... since when did those flavours exist?

btw, Astro has a strawberry shortcake flavored yogurt, I found it alright, but it might be worth trying.

I don't think I've ever tried multi-berry?? But apparently, pear and apple exist in their own little set of 12 packs that I've never seen!

Pear now exists in the large tubs! Pretty good...but not as good as prune!

I've been told that Activia yogurt is a very good choice. I will try some soon and even give the prune one a chance. I'll keep you posted, Thai.

I work at Loblaws Carlingwood and will investigate this non-buying of prunes phenomenon. I would think the seniors would need more prunes to aid with their slowing digestion. An investigation shall be launched, don't you fear.
