10/13/2005 Archived Entry: "HotCoffee"
As I sit here drinking my hot mug of coffee I just can’t help but think of how great it feels to sit and drink a hot mug of coffee. I love how you can have coffee in any number of ways, black, sugar, cream, chocolate powder, cinnamon stick, COLD. It’s delicious no matter what! Like most people, I enjoy a hot cup in the morning at the office. There’s nothing quite like enjoying the aroma of coffee while looking at the morning’s barrage of email before any real work gets done.
The thing about coffee is that it is comforting. Sort of like a hug from a big chested girl. Coffee also reminds me of the good old days of University where we’d go out to Tim’s at midnight and come back to sit around the dinner table and talk smack about school. All of us: Stephen, Dennis, Mike, Shawn, Jerome, Ryan, Lachlan, their girlfriends, siblings, parents, and pets. It’s the kind of memory you cherish when you realize that the midnight-Tim’s-with-all-your-friends lifestyle is very unlikely to ever return.

Coffee, like Tea, should be served hot. There is no such thing as a good cold tea or coffee.

The social aspect of going out for a coffee is a fairly unique Canadian thing. My sister, when she lived in Michigan, found that Americans seem not to go out with a friend and just have a coffee.

Stephen's sister's circle in Michigan = Americans, what's wrong with that?

I've also heard this about Americans from other areas as well. From Canadian people who went to american colleges. So there!

i was unaware that the world consisted of just americans and canadians.
going to a cafe or bistro or whatever for a coffee seemed to be very popular in the european cities i visited. although, in barcelona they were quite fond of having a cup of melted chocolate (not to be confused with hot chocolate in anyway) and dipping a piece of deep fried dough into it (it's apparently a great hangover remedy ... this has absolutely no appeal for me, i must be getting old.)

Dave: remember before Uni you were all "man, i'm not going to get hooked on that shit. coffee is for sissy nintendo fanboys". two days later....
Time for my morning big chested hug.

Melpie: I never claimed that the world consisted solely of americans and canadians. I merely expressed my knowledge of a general trend in Canadian and American social scenes with respect to coffee habits.

wow. i can so relate to the nostalgic part of this post thai. Tim's was pretty much the only place to go (and therefore the semi-official reunion place for dozens of my friends) past midnight in my hometown Repentigny when we were kids. when i visit my parents, i still usually take a longer way home to pass by it, but most of my friends are in montreal now. mmh, how bittersweet nostalgia is...

Hey Thai, I know you rarely have things appear in your blog by accident but did you pick the title specifically to generate more hits from people looking for the San Andreas mod?
Posted by Romer @ 10/18/2005 12:46 PM EST
it IS a reference to GTA but only for the sake of having a reference to GTA.
I'm going to try googling hotcoffee right now...well, not anywhere on the first 3 pages =(

Timmy's isn't big here in Vancouver like it is in ... Ontario. Apparently there are other just-as-cheap, "better" varieites, like Seattle's best. *shrug* i still love timmy's. But I tried to order an english toffee capuccino over here and they said they had phased it out. Anyone know if that's happened in Ontario too?
Posted by k1m @ 10/24/2005 12:50 AM EST
i think it has been phased out in some stores in ontario. i've been to stores that no longer serve it and others that still have it.
apparently the english toffee isn't as popular as the french vanilla.
