The Long Road
01/06/2006 Archived Entry: "November Finances"
Trying something a little different now. Instead of writing down all my expenses at the end of each day (theoretically), I'll only be writing down the cash ones and saving my credit card receipts. At the end of each month, I input all my interac transactions into the spreadsheet, and when the credit card bill comes in, I check off the receipts I've hoarded and add them to the spreadsheet. I THINK doing it this way will be cut down on some redundancies.
As for November, it's probably the best month yet! A thousand dollars if you forget the car and the osap. This also includes a road trip I undertook so it's pretty good. I got more than paid back for gas from the people I was driving and poker was very fruitful that month, so in the end it only comes to 700$ or so in expenses.
I bought myself a very nice running jacket and a replacement dreamcast. JEREMY WONG still owes me money for the Go board I picked up for him though.
December is going to be Monstrous!

expenses of over 3k with income of under 300? i think you gotta work on that, thai
or maybe this isn't a full full budget ... hmmmm

Might be a good idea to at least include your paycheck in income.... You look like you're hemorrhaging money like there's no tomorrow.

nah, I've chosen not to disclose my income. Just the "extra income" from each month. It's better if everyone thinks I'm spending my way into the poor house anyways.

he has a full time job right now and no real financial obligations, there will no feeling sorry for your outgoing funds on my part...never :p

*laugh* Interesting take on that. I've never known someone who would prefer to appear like an irresponsible product whore created by an overly capitalist society, spending their way to their own demise. Oh wait, ya I have.... but the alcoholics in my life haven't disclosed how much they've spent on their addictions, the way you outline your comic book (sorry, graphic novel) and poker addictions. *giggle*
J/K Thai, you know I love you, but I have to agree with Melpie.... There's no way this can be considered a proper and complete budget.

Only melpie and Kathleen have claimed that it was a budget. It is merely a listing of Rayne's expenses for the month. Which is a useful set of information to track from month to month, even without releasing the income. Now as to why he releases it publicly for us all to see, I'll never know.

Stephen, its simply a public display of Thai's love for materialism.

Good point, sbdep, I thought it was listed as a budget... maybe in an earlier post, but honestly I'm too lazy to check. I'd rather just say I assumed incorrectly.

I post it because a) it forces me to take a second look at it, and b) I want others to start doing it (I know of 4 who have) so that c) I can see what others are wasting their money on (although no one has shown me theirs yet).
And from looking at it, Materialism isn't really a problem here, FOOD is!

My problem is definitely materialism. My Mastercard bill is regularly $1100+!
So I think I will start tracking things too, just to figure out how much money I should be saving. And I vow to post it on the web, too!

Eating out so much is a form of material wealth, no?
Posted by dAN @ 01/11/2006 02:37 PM EST
I wouldn't say so. Materiaslism is the accumulation of physical stuff. Fat cells do not count.
Posted by Rayne @ 01/11/2006 02:53 PM EST
Materialism is the pursuit of wealth and luxury...eating out can be seen as a luxury, as you do receive a form of service.
Posted by dAN @ 01/11/2006 04:32 PM EST
I will concede that eating out lots is a luxury, but it doesn't jive with my definition of materialism.
Joe: awesome!
