09/21/2006 Archived Entry: "The Mother"
I recently had one of the most stressful moments in my life. Our dishwasher had been acting up and I had arranged for a service call. The repairman would call before 8am to give us a time window for when he'd show up to our house. On the day we're supposed to get the call, my mom busts into my room, delivering cruel and unusual punishment:
"What's The Brick's service number?"
"huh?", still sleeping
"What's The Brick's service number?"
"wuh?", very groggy
"What's The Brick's service number?"
"what time is it?", not seeing clearly yet
"8am, they havent called yet. What's The Brick's service number?"
"I dunno"
"What's The Brick's service number?!"
"It's 8am"
"WHAT'S THE BRICK'S SERVICE NUMBER!?!"
"THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!!!"
"WHAT'S THE BRICK'S SERVICE NUMBER!?!"
"1-800-360-2742!!!", relieved.
And then she calls them from the phone in my room....

Intentional Star Trek reference? (Yes, I acknowledge I'm the world's biggest geek). And I understand completely.... this is why I only moved back to my mother's house knowing she wouldn't be there
