12/13/2007 Entry: "Computer Woes"

You know what I dont like? People who don't know how to use computers. I'm not talking abour your 90 year old grandmother who can't tell the difference between a keyboard and a sock puppet, or uncle Cletus who's never seen a mouse outside of his sister/cousin's. I mean people who work in an office and are at their computers at least 5 hours a day and still double click everything. Or the one guy who when I asked him to scroll sideways was at a loss and zoomed out on the screen instead. I mean, what?! These are very basic things! I dont expect everyone to be like Anderson who once remote desktop'd into my PC and did things I dont even have words for. But c'mon, they should at least know the shortcuts for copy and paste though, right?

Similar situation with my mom and her cell. She can't do simple things.

Another scenario that's gone on for eons in our home concerns the portable phones at home. There's a small delay (almost 2s) from when you activate the phone and connect with the caller. For some unexplicable reason, my parents insist on saying "hello" during that delay, resulting in "hello....hello....hello....hello..." EVERY SINGLE TIME. Even after making them aware of this delay, they still resort to this silliness. ABSURD.

similarily, but not really on-topic, my dad often calls me to ask me to do something or to call someone or whatever. I'll say "sure, no problem" and then there's always this pause afterwards like he expects me to say something else, but after a few seconds of silence he'll be like "hello?". It's quite ridiculous these little pauses we have in our phone conversations. I've learnt to just continuously ask "anything else?"
