01/02/2008 Archived Entry: "Is he a loser?"

There's a guy here at work that I'm starting to develop feeling for...if I had to label this feeling it would be...contempt. He's in his late 30s, has no car, and shows up in wrinkled dress shirts (I'm also pretty sure that he wears the same dress shirt several days in a row, this is sanitarily and stylistically unforgiveable). But as bad as these things are, what I really take issue with is the hours he puts in. He can often be found here in the office on Saturdays, Sundays, and even Holidays. For example, he was here yesterday (Jan.1.) for Five hours (I know all this because of my official position as Keeper Of The Time). It's not really the hours he puts in that I take issue with though (especially since he gets paid hourly and everyone is entitled to get ahead or to show their dedication to the job) but, like in everything else, its his presentation of it.

If he were to say things like "I have to meet my deadline", "trying to impress the boss", or even "I wanted to hit overtime and 1.5x pay", I'd be all like "yea, that's cool". Instead, the guy says things like "I had nothing better to do", "It keeps me out of trouble", and "I was bored", then I'm all like "wtf, get a life". Seriously, I put in a lot of hours into my jobs, but when the chance for a day off comes, I take it and relish it - ESPECIALLY if it's a paid day off. I mean, what the hell, he took the bus all the way out here, stayed for 25 minutes and bused back home last sunday. His time would have been spent masturbating, in my opinion. I don't care who you're talking to, boy or girl, young or old, the last thing you should do soak them in spit while you're talking, the second last thing is to give them the image that you're some bored, mid-life loser with nothing better to do than spend an hour travelling to the office for 20 minutes of work.

what do you mean you're pretty sure that he wears the same shirt every day? does he somehow alter it so as to disguise it from one day to the next? how can you not tell?

well, if he had 3 light blue dress shirts, for example, then I'd be wrong.
