So recently I entered an LCBO. This Saturday in fact, to get some good old Di Saronno Amaretto. I was surprisingly 2 for 2 on not being carded in my recent escapades to the LCBO, but I highly doubted to establish a 3 for 3 record. As I approached the cash, I was asked for ID. No surprise at all, really. After having the cashier stare at my card for five seconds he returned it and laughingly commented, "You're going to have trouble for a long time, eh?"
I had no choice but to laugh myself. The statement was truly accurate based on my experiences over the past 5 years. I guess he just made me realize it won't end soon. Although, in terms of my mind set, I'm nowhere near 23. Its odd how the age issue keeps cropping up. Even after you tell people you've started a Master's, they'll still manage to ask, "So, how old are you? 18?" WTF?!?! Did they pay attention to anything I've said?
Now here's the kicker, my main motivation for this post. I walked into EB games this past Sunday and proceeded to the cash to buy Half-life 2. Upon presenting the game, the cashier asked for my ID stating, "You have to be 17 to purchase this game." It didn't occur to me right away, but it took me no more than six seconds to realize, 'This dude here thinks I look 16'. I mean, I can go with the 19, the 18, maybe even the 17. But 16, that's a whole new ballgame altogether. Its almost as bad as re-electing Bush, but worse than having elected him in the first place. In future, I promise to post my newfound sentiments on what it feels like to be 15...:P!

So I started playing Texas Holdem online... with real money. It's pretty fun, at first I thought that it would make a huge difference playing in real life and online. Turns out that actually seeing the other players really doesn't matter so much, poker's all about when you bet, how you bet, and what your bet means in relation to the last couple of bets you made. There's tons of poker strategy guides out there, and surprisingly, they're pretty helpful when you're playing.
Anyways, now that poker is this huge "thing" sweeping across the land, it's unsurprising to see all these online poker servers popping up. I wish I would have thought of starting an online poker server. There are hundreds of players online at any time of day, or night. Besides the startup cost (writing the software) and maintaining your server monthly, there's probably very little cost in running such an operation. I also like all the little "incentives" they give you to play. When you first cash in, you get a 50% "bonus", but the bonus is given to you SLOWLY. The more you play, the more you get, and for each person you refer that signs up, you get 50 bonus dollars also! Whee!

The last U.S. election came down to a few hundred votes in Florida, and after 4 yrs of economic downward spiralling, hundreds of lies, torn international relations, profiteering, and over a thousand dead U.S. troops, all polls show that it'll be dead even again. Amazingly, it's like no one's mind has been changed in the last 4 years.
How they can continue to support someone who's destroyed a huge fiscal surplus, invaded another country with hand-wavy proof, while taking away civilian liberties is just beyond me. In Canada, we give our leaders their due, do a good job you get re-elected with majority, do a bad job => minority government or lose official party status altogether.
Politically, at least, I think about half of all Americans really are just dumb sheep.
Also, I think if Ralph Nader really wanted to affect some political changes, he should sit out this round. With things being so close, the votes Nader gets are totally meaningless and would be better off going to the Dems.
